Holiday Traditions

I have a great holiday tradition. It is Deepawali (DhEEpA-vali). The festival of lights! On this holiday in India they decorate their houses with colorful lights to make the houses look beautiful. In my house, every year we put up a hanging star in front of the window. We also decorate the house with Christmas lighting. And traditionally, we leave the dining room light on for the whole night!

In a New Environment

Have you ever done something the first time? Or have you been in a new environment with new people? I`m sure you have. This is a story about a five year-old in a new environment, which meets new friends and interacts with everyone. He learns life lessons and has a lot of fun!
There it was the sign that said Lincoln Elementary School. My stomach was throbbing and my head was swirling. I went inside. There were so many kids that I didn’t know where to go. But I remembered that I was the color blue which meant room #25. Inside were all sorts of toys, planes, trains, houses. I figured that we had to go to our seats because in preschool we used to do that.
“Settle down everyone,” the teacher said. She gave us a paper with petals on it. I knew what we were going to do. We were going to make a flower! The teacher explained the rules on how to make one. A few minutes later I started cutting out the petals. That took a while! Finally came lunch. I had grilled cheese; but I never ate it because it was too cold. I was still delighted though.
After lunch we started work on the flower. As I was continuing the person next to me displaced an orange liquid from his mouth known as puke. As soon as our teacher found out she went to the phone. The janitor arrived immediately, cleaned up the mess and left. We started working again until it was time to go. The bell rang and the teacher told us to sit down. She explained the bus rules to us and told us what our bus color was. So far that wasn’t the best day I had but it was fun!

Why I Love My Country

What is Patriotism?  What is loving your country?    I think that they are Americans helping our country be free. Without patriotism we wouldn`t be here. We would probably be slaves working for the British. Let`s take one thing in mind, not everything`s free, you have to earn it. Like the wars we won, that`s pretty hard. So don`t ask for anything earn it. All those people who died out in war, they are showing love and patriotism for their country. Basically, loving your country is lending your life for millions of people, for their freedom.

Showing your love for your country is not just going out to war, it is so much more than that. You can put an American flag on the front of your house, wear shirts, and be American. I don`t do that because I am of another culture. But I at least love my country. I visit there every three years and live with it. Two hundred thirty-five years ago the founding fathers signed the Declaration of Independence. It was a letter to King George about why they wanted their own land. As soon as he got it he tore it in to pieces. The founding fathers must have loved their country.

I do love my country because of all it provides for me. It provides school, transportation, and shelters. I would not be doing this essay if my country wasn`t there for me. I would like to thank all the people who work hard for other peoples’ life and mine. I also would like to thank all the soldiers out in war to make the world a better place. If I were to thank other people I would thank the founding fathers because without them we would never be here.
